Why isn't Word removing yellow highlight?

I downloaded a document with text already highlighted in yellow. Pls see GIF below.

I do not know the root cause of this, but when you receive a file that already contains highlighted text it seems the highlighting gets stuck for some reason, especially when it's inside a table.

The only way I have found to get rid of the stuck highlight is to Clear Formatting and sometimes the Clear Formatting button above the Font Color button won't do it and only using the Clear Formatting under Styles will work to remove it. Unfortunately it will remove all other formatting as well, so you may have to re-apply font formatting once you have removed the highlight.

The best way to avoid this is to use a simple shortcut, ctrl+shift+V, it will paste the text without formatting. Since you can highlight the text, simply copy it to a new document with the shortcut.
